IDG Venture Europe, the European venture capital fund of International Data Group, has hired Anil Hansjee as principal. Hansjee joins from Bear Stearns where he was vice president in Technology Investment Banking.
While at Bear Stearns, Hansjee focused on software and IT services. Prior to working at the bank, Hansjee spent four years at Chase Manhattan in TMT investment banking.
Hansjee joins IDG at a time when the firm is looking to make further investments into Europe's IT markets. According to Kit Gould, managing partner at the firm’s London offices, the firm is aggressively pursing investment opportunities across Western and Northern Europe.
IDG intends to make IT and technology investments connected with the media industry. It aims to use parent company IDG’s industry knowledge and customer data of over 90 million IT buyers worldwide, to develop firms while they are in their growth phase.
IDG has $580m under management worldwide, of which $100m is dedicated to a fund specialising in European investments. Funds under manangement include $200m in China in two funds dating from 1992 and $180m in two funds in the US that date from 1996.
