The New York-based law firm has added nine lawyers to its private equity group, bringing it to 70 members strong.

Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker has hired nine lawyers to beef up the firm’s private equity practice.

Based in Chicago, the new hires will advise on private equity deals, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, divestitures, distressed acquisitions and investments, and venture capital-related matters, said a spokesperson for the firm.

Ryan McLennan, Amit Mehta, Paul Quinn, Richard Radnay, Brian Richards, and Jeff Terry joined from law firm Greenberg Traurig; and Chris Sheaffer, Kim Thompson Smith, and Jim Smulkowski from Katten Muchin Rosenman.

The new hires join Thad Malik and Jill Sheiman, who arrived from Jenner & Block last month.

Rick Chesley is the current head of Paul Hastings' Chicago corporate department and Bill Simpson is the current chair of the global private equity group and each will continue in these roles, added the spokesperson.

In May, Roger Peng, a former managing partner of Hogan & Hartson’s Beijing office, joined Paul Hastings. Peng focuses on private equity mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital and commercial transactions, with a focus on the telecommunications, media and technology industries.
