PolyTechnos Venture Partners, the Munich-based venture capitalist, has appointed a new managing director and made a partner promotion.
The firm has hired Dr Dirk Lupberger, former president and CEO of Siemens Venture Capital, as a managing partner. Frank Feist has been made partner. Both will work on the firm’s information technology and communications investment team.
While at Siemens, Lupberger managed a series of investments totalling more than E150m. Prior to venture capitalism, he held a number of senior positions in Siemens’ business units and affiliates and worked in several markets including China, where he was instrumental in the development of the group’s GSM handset product and mobile infrastructure.
Lupberger will take up his role at PolyTechnos from 15 February and will be responsible for nurturing a number of portfolio companies. Part of his brief will be to help introduce their products to international markets and form strategic alliances with industry partners. He will also contribute to the management of PolyTechnos Venture Fund II, which recently secured E120m for its first closing.
Feist joined PolyTechnos in April 2000 from Mercer Management Consulting where he advised international telecom operators and equipment manufacturers on strategic issues. He has also worked for McKinsey & Company and spent three years with Ericsson’s mobile communications division in North America.
PolyTechnos is based in Munich and focuses on early-stage technology companies operating predominantly in German-speaking Europe. Its main focuses are information technology & communications, materials and components, and Life Sciences. The portfolio comprises around 20 companies including Danionics, Devgen and Fast Technology.
