Buyout, growth equity, secondaries, venture capital and other PE funds had raised a total of $308bn as of June 30, up 9% from the $282bn secured a year earlier, according to PEI Group data.

Inflows during the period were disproportionately buoyed by the $49bn raised for MGX Fund I in June.

Nearly half of the private equity funds that closed in the first quarter met their fundraising targets – the highest proportion in at least five years.

Some 2,288 funds gathered $735bn between them in 2025, marking the second consecutive yearly slump in capital raising for the asset class.

Private equity funds took an average of 17 months to hold their final close in the first three quarters of this year, marking a slight shortening on last year.

Buyout, growth equity, secondaries, venture capital and other private equity funds raised a total of $250bn in the first half, down 13 percent from $289bn raised a year earlier.

North American funds were the most active during H1 2025 in spite of growing geopolitical uncertainty.
