LISTEN NOW: Hamilton Lane’s Delgado-Moreira on Japan, China and the rise of Asian families

Juan Delgado-Moreira, managing director and head of international at Hamilton Lane, shares his predictions for private equity in Japan and China.

Japan will be “disappointing in 2018 and cannot maintain last year’s fundraising and exit numbers”, while China is set to look more like US firms in 10 years’ time, says Juan Delgado-Moreira, managing director and head of international at Hamilton Lane.

“When funds like Sequoia and others are raising big growth pools targeting the world’s opportunity set, you will have Chinese managers, who will raise very large pools. And at some point in the next two to three years, I forecast that they will be bigger than the pan-regional funds.”

Delgado-Moreira also predicts more new money will come into private equity from Asian families.
