Assessing the African opportunity

When the dust of the financial crisis settles, Sub-Saharan Africa will throw up some compelling investment opportunities.

Africa may have escaped the full initial force of the financial crisis, but it is feeling the aftershocks in the form of reduced liquidity, withdrawing foreign capital and slowing demand in export markets.

Out of the crisis, however, will emerge opportunities for the seasoned private equity investor, but the question is where and when?  PEO garners insights from three veterans of the market: Rod Evison, managing director of UK government-owned fund of funds CDC Group responsible for Africa and Latin America; Peter Schmid, partner and head of Africa for emerging markets GP Actis; and Kofi Bucknor, managing partner of pan-African GP, Kingdom Zephyr Africa Management.
