Benchmark Capital, the venture capital firm investing in the global technology sector has hired a new general partner for its London office, recruiting Swedish entrepreneur Johan Brenner.
Brenner is the founder and chairman of Time Vision, a Nordic company focusing on early stage technology investment. Before founding Time Vision, Brenner held various executive positions with the Kinnevik Group including president of 3C Communications in Luxembourg. Prior to the Kinnevik Group Johan spent nearly ten years working for the ABB Group in various positions in financial services and power generation.
Johan will be the fourth General Partner in Europe joining George Coelho, Barry Maloney and Mark Evans. In addition to funds investing in the US and Israel, Benchmark has a $500 million (€394 million) fund targeted at early stage technology businesses in Europe.
“[Brenner] has excellent hands-on expertise in building international businesses,” said Barry Maloney. “[He] brings an in-depth understanding of the technology sector that will make an immediate and invaluable contribution in growing the portfolio of Benchmark's investments across Europe.”
Benchmark’s most recent European investment came this month when the firm led a €3.2 million round of financing for NewBay Software, a Dublin-based developer of the world’s first mobile phone blogging system. Last month the firm backed a £15 million ($27.5 million; €21.7 million) series B round of financing for Nexagent, a UK-based network services provider.
