Accel-KKR in MBO of 3D software co

The joint private equity venture formed by Accel Partners and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has spent $57.5 million for 3D graphics provider Alias.

Accel-KKR has partnered with the management of 3D graphics company Alias in a buyout of the division from publicly traded Silicon Graphics for $57.5 million (€48.2 million).

The deal is expected to close by the end of the quarter.

Alias provides 3D graphics technology and services for various entertainment and design customers, including those in film, video games and education sectors. Some of its customers include CNN, Disney, Electronic Arts and Industrial Light & Magic.

In the press statement, Accel-KKR managing director Tom Brands said the equity will provide for long-term growth for Alias and its blue-chip customer base.

Accel-KKR is a technology-focused private equity firm founded by venture capital firm Accel Partners and private equity house Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. The firm typically makes investments of between $15 million and $50 million in companies with revenues between $25 million and $150 million.
