ARCIS buys private equity portfolio from from French utility EDF

ARCIS Group has bought a private equity portfolio of a French energy company, underlining recent interest in the utilities sector.

ARCIS Group’s funds have bought the entire portfolio of energy company Electricité de France’s private equity investments, through its private equity subsidiary, EDF Capital Investissement, a Paris-based investor, for an undisclosed amount.

EDF Capital Investissement’s portfolio has positions in nearly thirty private equity funds in venture capital and growth and development capital, including Emertec, a €40 million fund targeting seed investments in nano technologies; Sofinnova, which focuses on life sciences and information technology, and Ventech, a venture capital investor, which specialises in information technology and biotechnology in France.
The portfolio includes a 50 percent position in Electropar France, a growth capital investment company with minority positions in European growth businesses.  Electropar France is invested in fourteen growth companies operating in several industrial sectors.

ARCIS Group was formed in 1993 with offices in Paris and London.  The group provides liquidity services to private equity investors. 

Elsewhere in the utilities sector, this week Energy Capital Partners closed its debut fund, Energy Capital Partners I, at $2.2 billion.  The firm’s established target for the fund was $1.5 billion.
