B-business appoints new CEO

Emerging Technologies chief Lennart Johansson is to replace Hans Dieter Koch as CEO at the VC firm that has E750m under management.

As part of its plans to develop closer relationships with its partner companies, European venture capital investor b-business partners has named Lennart Johansson to replace current CEO Hans-Dieter Koch.

Johansson is currently CEO of another European VC, Emerging Technologies. Prior to this he worked for Atlas Copco, one of b-business partners' investors, for 16 years. While at Atlas Copco he held several executive positions, including senior vice president.

“The appointment of Johansson is part of our plans to forge closer links with our business partners,” said Börje Ekholm, b-business partners chairman. “With his broad background combined with venture capital experience, he will take b-business partners to the next stage of our development.”

Ekholm said the departure of Koch was connected to the firm's wish to further develop its operations in Europe. “We see the firm as having different stages of development. [Koch] provided us with an excellent platform for growth, but we decided it was time for us to bring somebody else in.”

Koch will stay with b-business partners until April 2003. His future plans have not as yet been announced.

b-business partners invests primarily in Germany, UK and Nordic companies, although the firm’s current portfolio includes eleven companies in six European countries including France, Ireland and the Netherlands. The firm has E750m of committed capital to invest in B2B technologies through its partnerships with companies including Investor AB, SEB, ABB, AstraZeneca, Atlas Copco, Electrolux and Ericsson.
