Benson Elliot hires former Schroders man

Marc Mogull’s newly-launched private equity real estate firm Benson Elliot Capital Management has hired its second partner, Philip Irons, former head of direct property transactions at Schroders.

Benson Elliot Capital Management, a private equity real estate firm launched by Marc Mogull, the former head of real estate at Doughty Hanson, has appointed Philip Irons as a partner.
Irons has joined Benson Elliot from Schroders, where for the past two years he has been head of transactions, direct property, responsible for all direct investment transactions from its £5.6 billion (€8.1 billion) Schroder Property Investment Management funds.
Before Schroders, Irons was head of acquisitions and disposals at Benchmark Group, a London-based property investment firm bought by GE Capital in 2004. During his seven years at Benchmark, Irons worked on approximately £2 billion of transactions.
Irons began his real estate investing career at property auctioneers Cushman and Wakefield Healey and Baker.
Earlier this month, Benson Elliot appointed Trish Geery, formerly managing director and head of global real estate at Dubai Investment Group, as a partner. The hire followed shortly after the firm launched its first fund, Benson Elliot Real Estate Partners II, with €264 million of capital. The fund will invest in property in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Eastern Europe.
