BerchWood strengthens UK and US teams

Global placement agent BerchWood Partners has made three appointments to its London, New York and San Francisco offices.

BerchWood Partners, a global placement agent for private equity funds, has appointed Alexander Apponyi in London, Bruce Pflaum in San Francisco and Doug Jarrett in New York.

Apponyi has joined BerchWood’s London office after 11 years with investment bank UBS, most recently as a director in the investment banking department. While there, he helped launch the European Private Equity Placements Group, raising private equity capital for growth companies in a number of industries.

Apponyi also worked within the M&A group, executing IPOs, secondary offerings and M&A advisory assignments.

Pflaum joined Berchwood’s San Francisco office in August from real estate and financial advisory firm Capital Advisors. Prior to that, he was a principal and co-founder of Hero Capital and an associate at SG Cowen Securities Corporation.

Berchwood’s New York office hired Jarrett from the investment bank Bank of America, where he worked on equity, debt and M&A advisory transactions. He has also worked at Morgan Stanley Capital Partners and KPMG Peat Marwick in New York.

Berchwood has offices in London, New York, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago. The firm said it has raised funds valued at over $1 billion in the last 18 months, including Close Brothers Private Equity Fund VII, which closed on £360 million (€532 million; $623 million) in March 2004; DW Healthcare Partners’ 2004 $90 million (€77 million) inaugural fund; and Montauk TriGuard’s 2005 $300 million third fund.
