BlackRock vet to lead Wilshire Private Markets

The private equity fund of funds has hired Kevin Nee as its president after collecting $615m for its eighth private equity fund of funds.

Kevin Nee, a former senior executive with BlackRock’s private equity business, will lead the private equity fund of funds division of the global investment and consulting firm Wilshire Associates.

As president of Wilshire Private Markets, Nee will focus on the continued growth of the group and expansion of domestic and international operations, according to a Wilshire statement.

Wilshire Private Markets in May closed its eighth private equity fund of funds on $615 million.

Nee, who was also named to the Wilshire Associates board of directors, is a 16-year veteran of international private capital markets. Nee began his career with INVESCO’s private capital group, where he managed fund of funds portfolios and participated in direct company investments.

He joined Quellos Group in 2001, and in 2007, he co-founded the firm’s private capital division, which was subsequently acquired by BlackRock in a $1.7 billion transaction. At BlackRock, Nee served as a managing director and member of the investment and management committees for the firm’s Private Equity Partners team.

Wilshire’s hiring of Nee comes nearly two years after the departure of former senior managing director Thomas Lynch for personal reasons. Lynch, who currently serves as managing director of Cliffwater, oversaw the Wilshire Private Markets Group for 17 years.

California-based Wilshire Private Markets manages more than $6.5 billion.
