Blackstone Advisory Partners, the corporate finance advisory business of The Blackstone Group, has appointed Nick Tansley, a former Citigroup executive, to head up its European industrials team, according to a statement.
At Citigroup, Tansley led the diversified industrials team for the EMEA region. Prior to that, he was head of the European industrials group at Japanese bank Nomura. His transaction experience covers a wide range of industries, including power equipment, automation, transportation equipment, aerospace components, distribution and machinery in both M&A and capital markets situations, Blackstone said.
Tansley, who has nearly 20 years of industry experience, began his career at Coopers & Lybrand in London. He subsequently joined Flemings before moving to Lehman Brothers in 2001. He remained with the business through its acquisition by Nomura in 2008 and joined Citigroup in 2011.
Blackstone also hired two former Rothschild executives to run its newly opened restructuring and M&A advisory business in the Iberian region. The Madid office will be run by Borja Arteaga, who joins as senior managing director, and Albert Fernandez, who joins as a managing director.
The pair “understand the corporate landscape and its particular requirements, and have excellent relationships with all the major corporates and investors,” John Studzinski, global head of Blackstone Advisory Partners, said in the statement.
Blackstone has opened the office because deal flow is picking up in the region, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Arteaga has more than 20 years of corporate finance advisory experience in the Spanish market. He has been at Rothschild for the past 13 years and most recently was co-heading the Spanish operations.
Fernandez has been at Rothschild for the past eight years. Prior to that, he worked at McKinsey and JP Morgan.
Together, they have led a number of high profile transactions in Spain and focused on M&A, restructuring, equity and refinancing transactions. Recent transactions in which they have been involved include: the investment of Eurazeo in Desigual; Doughty Hanson’s investments in Quiron, USP and Teknon; and Santander’s investment in Bank of Shanghai.
Blackstone Advisory Partners provides corporate finance advice. Since its formation in 1985, the business has participated in more than $550 billion worth of corporate advisory transactions.
