Carlyle adds to communications toolkit

The asset management firm recently launched a podcast series.

A series of monthly podcasts providing market commentary and insight from executives of The Carlyle Group is the latest in a string of communication efforts from the firm.

The first podcast features a global investment outlook from William Conway, Carlyle's co-founder and co-chief executive.

“What we want to do is show people who we are, who we work for, and how we create value,” said Carlyle spokesperson Liz Gill. “By generating understanding we want people to ultimately appreciate what we do.”

This is not Carlyle’s first foray into making itself more transparent to the public at large. A website update last year, an active social media presence and video content are also vital in getting across Carlyle’s message, according to Carlyle’s managing director of global communications, Chris Ullman.

“We have a number of audiences we always have in mind, including our investors, the media, people who work in our industry and ultimately the public,” added Ullman, who said that using a variety of mediums is the best way to engage with a wider audience.

“If people get to know us, they will see how we work for our investors. So it is important to educate people and we will continue to do so.”

In similar effort, last week the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA) released an animated video aimed at explaining how private equity works. EVCA too revamped its website last year and released its “little book of private equity” in an attempt to boost the industry's public image.
