Chart of the Week: Fundraising by Spanish firms

Spanish managers are generally raising more and more capital each year since 2009.

Private Equity International's fundraising numbers reveal that $1.57 billion was raised by 10 Spanish managers in the first three quarters of the year. This is almost three times as much capital that was raised in 2009.

In September, Portobello Capital III became the largest fund to close this year collecting its target of €375 million. The buyout fund targets Spain and Portugal and includes investors like AXIS Participaciones Empresariales SGECR, S.A.

In 2012, there was a dip in the capital raised by Spanish managers. Six funds managed to reach a final close raising $588.8 million, similar to what was raised in 2009. Santander Mezzanine Fund, which focuses on the UK, was the largest fund to close in 2012, securing €200 million in commitments.

As of 26 November 2014, 31 funds managed by Spanish GPs are currently on the road with an aggregate target size of $4.4 billion.
