Chart of the Week: H1 2013 vs H1 2014

Only two regions managed to raise more capital in H1 this year compared to H1 last year.

In H1 2014, $193.34 billion was collected from 326 private equity funds. This was a 7.89 percent decrease from the same period last year.

North American fundraising increased by $27.43 billion this year compared to last year. Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Fund IX was the largest fund to close within the first half of the year securing $6.43 billion in commitments.

Latin America and Central/Eastern Europe, two of the major emerging markets, raised the least amount of capital in H1 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.  

This year, $0.24 billion was collected for Latin American focused funds in contrast to $2.06 billion that was rasied from eight funds last year. Central and Eastern Europe collected $4.21 billion last year from six funds, compared to only $0.57 billion from two funds.

Capital raised in Western Europe remained at similar levels with only $297.58 million less raised for the first half of this year compared to H1 2013.
