The total capital committed between 1 March 2009 and 28 February 2014 by the top 50 LPs this year amounted to $313.06 billion.
There were 21 pension funds that accounted for 46 percent of the total capital. Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) topped the ranking by committing $26.21 billion.
Alpinvest, Hamilton Lane and HarbourVest Partners were the top fund of fund managers, ranking after CPPIB. More than 50 percent of the capital committed from fund of fund managers came from these three institutions.
Only two insurance companies, Skandia and Allstate Investments made the LP50 ranking.
