Cultivian Sandbox Ventures raises $135m

The Chicago-based investment firm has raised close to $300 million across three funds.

Cultivian Sandbox Ventures held a final close of its third venture capital fund, Cultivian Sandbox Food & Agriculture Fund III, at $135 million. The fund will invest in food and agriculture technology companies that address demand for protein, food safety, traceability, nutrition and resource efficiency.

Fund III’s strategic investors include  Archer Daniels Midland Company, Corteva Agriscience, Ecolab, Elanco, Griffith Foods, GROWMARK, Koch Ag & Energy Solutions, R.D. Offutt Company, Smithfield Foods, and Sumitomo Chemical America.

The fund’s predecessor, Cultivian Sandbox Food & Agriculture Fund II, closed in February 2015 at $114 million.
