NewMedia SPARK invests in Kobalt

NewMedia SPARK has joined SPARKidea Holdings and other UK and Sweden-based investors in a second round of investment in Kobalt worth £2m. The capital raised will be used for further development of Kobalt’s technology platform and new signings to add to its roster of 15 songwriters.

Kobalt was established in January 2001 by SPARKidea and the founders of Diesel Music, a Swedish independent record label. SPARKidea is a proactive private equity company in the digital media sector, which is majority owned by NewMedia SPARK.

Carlyle leads $10m third round investment in Apama

Apama, a developer of real-time business intelligence software, has completed a third round of fundraising. The Cambridge-based firm has raised $10m which it will use to accelerate the company’s US market position.

The Carlyle Group led the fundraising and was joined by Anschutz and Providence Investment Company, which have both previously back the company. Carlyle’s investment came from its Carlyle Europe Venture Partners fund, a E730m fund focusing on investments in core infrastructure technologies and services.
