3i leads $9m investment round; Deutsche Bank backs Lumentis

3i leads $9m investment round

MicroEmissive Displays Ltd (MED) has completed a second round of financing totalling $9m. The investment was led by 3i, which also provided first round financing of £1.5m to MED in September 2000.  3i was joined in this latest funding round by existing and new investors that included Scottish Equity Partners and European Venture Partners.

MicrosEmissive Displays produces colour microdisplays using light emitting polymers. This latest round of funding is intended to enable the firm to further develop its technology.

Deutsche Bank backs Lumentis

Deutsche Bank Industrial Holdings has provided financing to Lumentis, a Swedish provider of metro DWDM [Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing] systems as part of a funding round that will see Lumentis form a strategic partnership with Santec. The firm has raised $19m, which will enable Lumentis to further develop the functionality of its system architecture as well as facilitating an expansion drive into Asia.

DB Industrial Holdings was set up by Deutsche Bank AG in early 1999. Its private equity investments are made through DB Investor which concentrates on investing in evolving industries such as the telecommunications and media sectors. It also invests in industry restructurings.
