Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DrKW), the investment banking unit of Dresdner Bank, has made a further appointment at its revamped financial sponsors group.
The firm has hired Philippe Goffin, a former managing director at JP Morgan Chase in London where he worked for nine years. Previously he worked at the debt capital markets group of Citibank in London. He has over 20 years’ international banking experience.
Goffin’s arrival marks the second hire from JP Morgan Chase in the past two months, following the appointment of Pascal Maeter, who joined the firm in September as head of the firm’s financial sponsors group.
According to a spokesperson for DrKW, the bank’s financial sponsors coverage group has a broader remit than its predecessor, headed by Michael Kershaw, which was focused primarily on M&A activity. The new group would work on sponsors activity ‘across the board, not just limited to M&A activity’, the spokesperson said, adding that it had not yet completed any transactions.
Goffin has been involved in a number of large LBO transactions, including Messer Griesheim, acquired by Allianz Capital Partners in 2001 in a E1.8bn deal; Gerresheimer, which was acquired by Investcorp and JPMorgan Partners for E430m in 2000; and Acordis, the UK textile business acquired by CVC Capital Partners for E545m in 2000.
Goffin reports to Pascal Maeter, who works across the bank’s corporate finance & advisory (CF&A) and capital markets origination (CMO) businesses. The CF&A unit is headed by Steve Berger while Joe Dryer heads the capital markets origination.
Goffin’s appointment is the latest appointment since Steve Berger joined DrKW in April 2003 with a remit to grow the bank’s presence in European M&A activity. Further appointments are expected over the next twelve months.
