Former Actis legal director Peter Olds is joining the London office of law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, according to a statement from the firm.
Olds will join the firm as counsel on February 9.
Olds joined emerging markets specialist Actis in 2009 from Clifford Chance, where he was a senior associate in the firm’s private funds group specialising in private equity, real estate and infrastructure fundraising. He advised fund sponsors such as Actis, EQT and Barclays Private Equity, now known as Equistone Partners.
At Actis Olds was responsible for investor negotiations and fund closings across private equity, power infrastructure and real estate, as well as managing LP co-investments, transfers and Actis’s investor and marketing-related regulatory matters.
Cleary Gottlieb’s fund formation group is made up of four partners, one counsel, four senior attorneys and 30 associates based across offices in New York, London and Hong Kong, according to the firm.
Among its clients are Helios Investment Partners, which the firm advised in the formation of Helios Investors II, with aggregate commitments from investors of more than $900 million, and KKR, which the firm advised in the formation of KKR Asian Fund II. Cleary Gottlieb has also worked with TPG on a number of funds, including the formation of TPG Growth II, a vehicle focused on small and middle-market growth equity and buyout investments in both developed and emerging markets.
