Growth capital investor Frog Capital has promoted Joe Krancki from principal to partner, according to a statement from the firm.
Krancki joined Frog, which invests in the IT, digital media and resource efficiency sectors in Europe, when the firm rebranded in 2009. The firm was previously known as Foursome Investments.
At the time of the rebranding Frog, which is backed by the family office of the German Engelhorn family, saw its funding increase from €60 million to €100 million.
Krancki was part of the team that invested in GB Group, which netted the firm a 3.5x return on exit in 2013. He is a board member of portfolio companies EDITD and Mediatonic, and a board observer at OrderDynamics, Rockabox, and Rated People.
Krancki also leads Frog’s collaboration with the London Business School to produce the TELL Series, which showcases successful entrepreneurs’ stories of building high-growth businesses.
Krancki started his career as a management consultant with Ernst & Young in Chicago. Before he joined Frog, he worked in the technology investment banking group in the Jeffries London office. Krancki also gained experience working at 3i with Frog managing partner Mike Reid and partner Stephen Lowry, according to Frog’s website.
Reid, who left 3i’s growth capital team in June 2008 and re-emerged at Frog five months later, said Krancki would be taking a leadership role in the firm’s goal of making 12 to 15 new investments over the next four years.
Frog backs companies with revenue up to €30 million and requiring up to €20 million of growth capital. The firm has invested in more than 100 companies and its portfolio revenue is growing at around 40 percent per year, according to its website. In the last five years Frog has exited companies with a total transaction value of more than €1 billion, the firm said.
