General Atlantic promotes new MD and three principals

The firm announced new appointments in its London, New York and Mumbai offices.

General Atlantic has promoted Jörn Nikolay to managing director and Roni Elchahal, Andrew Ferrer and Rajat Sood to principals.

Nikolay, who had been a principal, joined General Atlantic in London in 2008 and relocated to Munich four years later to open GA’s German office, which he heads. He is also a board director for portfolio companies Axel Springer Digital Classifieds and Flixbus/Meinfermbus.

Nikolay previously worked at TA Associates in London, Bain & Company in Düsseldorf and Morgan Stanley in Frankfurt and London.

“We continue to see attractive opportunities in Germany and across Europe, and look forward to deepening our partnerships with innovative entrepreneurs and high-growth companies in the region,” General Atlantic chief executive Bill Ford said in a statement.

Elchahal, based in London, is responsible for General Atlantic’s EMEA capital partnering efforts. He joined the firm’s New York office in 2007 with a focus on the internet and technology sectors. He previously worked at CI Capital Partners, Boston Consulting Group and Parthenon.

Ferrer is a senior member of the firm’s retail & consumer team in New York and serves on the board of directors of Too Faced Cosmetics. Before joining GA last year, he worked at Sycamore Partners, Warburg Pincus, Berkshire Partners and Goldman Sachs.

Sood is also a senior investment professional, in General Atlantic’s Mumbai office, which he joined in 2007. Between 2009 and 2012, he worked in the firm’s New York office focusing on the financial services sector. Previously, he was an associate at McKinsey.
