Houlihan Lokey boosts European coverage

The US bank, which has a strong franchise in restructuring, has recruited Florus Plantenga to take its advisory offering to Europe’s private equity firms.

Houlihan Lokey, a investment bank, has hired Florus Plantenga as a director in its London office to lead the firm’s European private equity firm coverage.

Before Houlihan Lokey, Plantenga spent five years with Société Générale in its corporate and investment banking operation in London and Paris. At SocGen, he was a director of Egret Management, a leveraged loan CLO manager. Before that, he was a director of financial sponsor coverage for the firm.

During his investment banking career he has also worked for Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan and Kleinwort Benson.

John Mavredakis, senior managing director and head of Houlihan Lokey’s financial sponsors coverage group, said in a statement: “We are seeing a tremendous amount of activity in Europe with financial sponsor coverage.”

Houlihan Lokey opened its London office in 2002, followed by further openings in Paris and Frankfurt. The firm has advised on transactions across the UK and Europe, including international and trans-Atlantic deals, such as the sale of Gebrüder Gienanth-Eisenberg, a subsidiary of Fink Deutschland, to European mid-market buyout firm Cognetas.

Last year the bank bought Bleinheim Advisors, a debt advisory business, to augment its offering.
