European venture capital firm Index Ventures has promoted analyst Ben Holmes to principal in its London office.

In his new role, Holmes will work alongside general partner Danny Rimer on technology investments.

Holmes joined the London team of Index Ventures as an analyst in 2003, having previously worked at UK-listed venture capital firm NewMedia Spark, online share distribution platform EO and OC&C Strategy Consultants.

Holmes also currently represents Index Ventures on the boards of portfolio companies Stardoll and MindCandy.

Established in 1996, Index Ventures has offices in Geneva, London and Jersey and focuses on information technology and life science investments in Europe and Israel.

Index raised €300 million for its fourth fund, Index Ventures III, last February. The firm sold Skype to eBay last September in a $4 billion (€3.2 billion) transaction. Portfolio companies include Betfair and MySQL.
