Investec hires former UBS head

Christian Hess has joined as head of Investec’s Financial Sponsor Transaction Group

Investec has expanded its investment banking business with the appointment of Christian Hess as head of its newly created Financial Sponsor Transaction Group.

Hess, a founder member of UBS’s Financial Sponsor Group, spent 16 years at the investment bank.

He was a member of the UBS European investment banking department executive committee between 2007 and 2012 and head of EMEA investment banking department coverage between 2010 and 2012, according to a statement.

He then founded Hess & Co Capital Advisors, a private equity dedicated advisory boutique, which focused on senior level M&A, fundraising and general advisory mandates, according to Hess’ LinkedIn page. Clients included GPs, portfolio companies and management teams across all sectors in Europe.

Since 1999, Hess has completed more than 100 private equity deals, Investec said.

“The Private Equity industry is yearning for thoughtful, considered advice, executed with aplomb on a multi-product platform with a deeply rooted entrepreneurial spirit. I am very pleased to be joining the [Investec] team and working with its market leading advisory, financing and broking teams, as well as with the funds I have built up strong relationships with over the last twenty years,” Hess said in the statement.

Whilst Investec “already provides a comprehensive and integrated banking offering covering the entire lifecycle of private equity”, Hess’ appointment “will enable the bank to expand its presence in this area even further”, Investec added.
