L Catterton names first-ever head of London office

Jean-Philippe Barade joins the consumer sector-focused firm as partner from B&B Investment Partners at a time when L Catterton is looking to expand in Europe.

Consumer sector-oriented L Catterton has appointed Jean-Philippe Barade as partner and head of its London office, which a firm spokesman told Private Equity International is a newly created position, effective immediately.

Barade was most recently a co-founding partner at London-based B&B Investment Partners, which focuses on growth investment opportunities in consumer and healthcare, and is sponsored by Walgreens Boots Alliance.

He was also a managing director and partner at Morgan Stanley Private Equity and a principal in Permira Advisers’ consumer, retail, and leisure team. Earlier in his career, he was an investment banking associate at Credit Suisse First Boston.

L Catterton Europe managing partner Philippe Franchet said in a statement that L Catterton continues to “extend our leadership” and looks to grow its European franchise.

Barade’s appointment follows news that a former L Catterton managing director, Mark Grabowski, left the firm and officially joined TPG Growth on 6 September as a consumer sector-focused partner, as reported by Private Equity International.

The Greenwich-based firm was formed when Catterton Partners, luxury retailer LVMH, and family office Groupe Arnault merged, as reported by PEI. It manages $5.5 billion in assets.
