Lumis Partners invests in Kolkata-based call centre

The investment will be used to fund BNK eSolutions’ overseas expansion plans.

Indian private equity firm Lumis Partners has invested an undisclosed sum for a majority stake of more than 50 percent in BNK eSolutions, a Kolkata-based call centre.

Established in 2000, BNK eSolutions’ core businesses include voice support, technical support, telemarketing, data validation and surveys.

The funding will be used for BNK eSolutions’ overseas expansion plans.

The investment was made out of the firm’s first fund, Lumis Partners. Launched in 2006, the fund is open-ended although its investments typically span between three to five years. “Our fund doesn’t have a specific fund size as that changes whenever we receive a new investment,” Sandeep Sinha, managing partner of Lumis Partners, said in an interview.

The fund makes growth capital investments in India and the US. It is focused on platform-based services, education and healthcare sectors and generally invests between $2 million and $20 million per deal. “We have made nine investments from the fund and are beginning to look at Southeast Asia,” said Sinha.

Companies in the firm’s portfolio include Orange Cross, a healthcare services provider and iRunway, a knowledge services company.

Lumis Partners has an eight-strong team based in offices in New Delhi and Mumbai.
