UK lower mid-market private equity firm NBGI Private Equity has appointed Lawrence Dean as an investment manager.
Â
Dean began his career in corporate finance at SBC Warburg, now UBS, where he advised on a number of deals in the industrial and support services sectors.
Â
After that, he worked in business development for Travelselect, a travel business acquired by online travel and entertainment retailer Lastminute.com in April 2002 for £9 million (€13 million; $17 million).
Â
In 2002, Dean joined the investment banking division of the NBGI group.
Â
Dean’s appointment follows NBGI Private Equity’s recent exit of its investment in Nationwide Autocentres. The UK car servicing and MOT provider was sold in a £49 million secondary management buy-in to Phoenix Equity Partners. NBGI Private Equity generated a 10x money multiple on its original 2001 investment.
Â
Established in 2000 with an initial €100 million fund, London-based NBGI Private Equity invests £2 million to £15 million in buyouts, buy-ins, development capital and turnarounds with transaction values between £5 million and £50 million
