NEA promotes Harry Weller to GP

The Silicon Valley-based venture firm has rewarded several team members as it continues its expansion into alternative energies. The firm has focused more on alternative energies since its NEA XII fund closed on $2.5bn in 2006.

New Enterprise Associates has promoted several of its energy technology specialists, including naming Harry Weller a general partner.

Weller joined NEA in 2002 and focuses on NEA’s renewable energy investments and the firm’s activities in China – two areas of focus that NEA has been growing. Weller was previously a partner at FBR Technology Venture Partners.

Silicon Valley-based NEA also promoted Rohini Chakravarthy and Jon Sakoda to partner, and Ali Behbahani to principal.

Chakravarthy joined NEA in 2007 and focuses on energy and information technology investments. Prior to NEA,

Chakravarthy worked for Cisco Systems as head of its wireless investments and acquisitions division. Sakoda, who focuses on information technology and renewable energies, joined NEA in 2006. Sakoda was co-founder of IMlogic and is a former Goldman Sachs executive who worked on venture capital investments in the firm’s private equity group.

Behbahani, who specialises in healthcare investments and joined the firm last year from The Medicines Company, is the only promotion outside of energy technology-focused professionals.

NEA began targeting renewable energy technology investments with NEA XII, a $2.5 billion (€1.7 billion) fund that closed in 2006.

Tech-focused NEA was founded in 1978 and has $8.5 billion in committed capital.
