PEI Media, publisher of Private Equity International, has appointed Henry Elkington as chairman.

His appointment with the London-headquartered alternative assets-focused publisher, data provider and conference organiser is effective immediately, according to a statement.

Elkington is non-executive chairman of food-focused data provider Mintec and advanced tech data firm Techinsights. He was previously chief executive of Axio Data Group and UBM Data Services. He began his career at The Boston Consulting Group.

“Henry is a seasoned international executive who understands our markets and business models extremely well,” Tim McLoughlin, PEI Media’s chief executive said in the statement. “He will bring the insight and challenge we require as we continue to scale and grow – and as we begin realising the organic and acquisitive opportunities we have identified for the next phase of PEI’s corporate development.”

Elkington said: “Growing demand for information, insight and analysis from a sophisticated customer base means that this is a great time for PEI to drive further into the alternative asset class space and deliver more value for new and existing clients.”

PEI has offices in London, New York and Hong Kong. It employs around 200 staff and publishes titles including PERE, Infrastructure Investor, Private Debt Investor, Real Estate Capital, Private Funds Management, Agri Investor and Secondaries Investor.

UK-headquartered Bridgepoint acquired a majority stake in PEI Media last year.
