Yet that’s exactly what First Round found at MVision’s offices one dark and stormy night in February. It transpires that in between helping GPs extract large sums of cash from investors, Mounir “Moose” Guen and his team also like to give a little back. They’ve become an official patron of UK charity The Prince’s Trust, formalising a relationship which began in 2010.
One of those young people, the aforementioned charcutier, spoke movingly of how the charity had helped him give up a life of drugs and petty crime for one of oak-smoked pork products and pig intestine.
The next collaborative project will involve taking unemployed youngsters from urban areas and training them to manage forestry plantations. Never let it be said that private equity can’t see the wood for the trees.
