Royal Bank Ventures appoints director

Mark Danby's experience at venture capital fund Thinkventures and internet service provider Freeserve will make him a 'key member of the investment team'.

Royal Bank Ventures, Royal Bank of Scotland’s technology venture fund, has appointed Mark Danby as a director.

Danby is one of three appointments to be made in a team of nine investment executives spread across London and Edinburgh. He will report to Bill Troup, managing director of Royal Bank Ventures, who commented: “Mark is a key member of the investment team bringing together operational experience in the internet infrastructure and service sectors as well as venture capital experience.”

Danby was co-founder and chief operating officer of venture capital fund Thinkventures. Before that he was general manager at Freeserve, where he built and ran the business until its flotation on the LSE and NASDAQ in August 1999. He then became chief operating officer of Freeserve plc.

Royal Bank Ventures was set up in January this year. It targets high growth technology, media and telecoms companies in the UK and Europe. Investments typically range from £1mn to £10mn covering early-stage investment through to pre-IPO.
