Softbank pulls itself together

Softbank International Ventures, the international venture capital arm of Softbank Japan, is to merge its UK and European funds into one $600m fund.

Softbank International Ventures, the international venture capital arm of Softbank Japan, is to merge its UK and European funds.

The merged fund is worth $600m and has a portfolio of 13 companies.

Eric Hippeau, president of Softbank International Ventures, will be the executive managing director of the combined Softbank Europe Ventures. David Sola and Daniel Sasaki will run the London office; James Stuart will manage Paris operations; and Marc Zugel will run the Munich office.

The $200m Softbank Emerging Markets has opened an office in Warsaw, its first in Eastern Europe. Softbank Japan and the International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank Group.

Softbank Emerging Markets will invest in Poland and the central and eastern Europe. Richard Guziak will be managing director.
