Stirling Square builds investment, IR teams

The European firm continues to bulk up as its third fund reaches circa 60% deployment.

European mid-market firm Stirling Square Capital Partners has added former TA Associates principal Dietrich Hauptmeier to its investment team. Hauptmeier will be based in the firm’s London office and will focus on the firm’s investment activity in German-speaking Europe. Prior to his four-year stint at TA, he spent four years at KKR and a little over a year at Palamon Capital Partners.

Hauptmeier is the third hire this year for Stirling Square, which in January added a two professionals to run its investor relations function. Pascal Monteiro de Barros joined the firm as partner in charge of investor relations from boutique placement firm MAB Partners, and Charlotte Woltz, who was formerly in business development at US hedge fund manager Highbridge Capital Management, also joined the IR team.

Stirling Square is understood to have deployed around 60 percent of its €600 million third fund, which closed in January 2015, into six investments. This means the firm is approaching the point at which a manager would typically commence fundraising for its next vehicle. A spokesperson for the firm declined to comment.

Investors in the firm’s third fund include Brussels-listed investor Brederode, New York State Common Retirement Fund, Saskatchewan Municipal Employees’ Pension Plan and Hartford Healthcare Corporation.
