Temasek appoints India MD

The private equity arm of the Singapore government has appointed Dinesh Vaswani, formerly of Silicon Valley firms Bessemer Ventures and Walden International, as managing director in Mumbai.

Temasek Holdings Advisors India, the Mumbai-based private equity arm of Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, has hired Dinesh Vaswani as managing director.
Vaswani will replace outgoing MD Akash Prakash, who is leaving to set up his own fund, according to a report in FinanceAsia.
Vaswani was previously entrepreneur-in-residence at Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm Bessemer Ventures. He joined the firm in September 2004 to head up Bessemer Ventures’ India office, which launched at the same time. At Bessemer, Vaswani evaluated investment opportunities in companies based in India but incorporated in the US.

He was previously at US- and Asia-focused VC Walden International, where he was managing director. At Walden, he had focused on identifying and developing cross-border software companies since April 2002.
Prior to Walden, Vaswani was the founding CEO of software company WorldWalla; director of business development at; and principal at The Chatterjee Group, an affiliate of Soros Fund Management.
At Temasek, Vaswani will work alongside Manish Kerjiwal, who heads up the Mumbai operation.
