SCRS confirms $125m in commitments

The US public pension has backed a pair of U.S.-focused PE funds.

South Carolina Retirement System approved $125 million-worth of commitments to private equity funds at its March 2020 investment commission meeting. The commitments comprise of $75 million to Valor Equity V and $50 million to Aberdeen U.S. Private Equity Fund VIII.

The $33.50 billion US public pension has a 6.20 percent current and target allocation to private equity as of December 2019. SCRS’s allocation to the asset class has dropped by 1.40 percentage points from 7.60 percent in December 2018.

As illustrated below, SCRS has made 11 commitments to 2019-vintage private equity funds, which combined constitute over $1.12 billion.
